Nestlé Professional Empowers Women Entrepreneurs in Benin

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), Nestlé Professional, the out-of-home business arm of Nestlé Nigeria, hosted the 10th edition of its Business of Food workshop in Benin.

Over the past three years, this initiative has transformed more than 2,000 food businesses across Nigeria by equipping entrepreneurs with essential skills and knowledge to improve their operations, drive growth, and boost their income.

This edition focused on empowering and connecting over 200 female industry professionals, including restaurant operators, chefs, culinary school students, street food vendors, caterers, and grillers.

Recognizing their crucial role in their communities, the workshop provided free hands-on training in culinary techniques, menu development, customer engagement, and hygiene best practices, along with essential resources for business success.

Aligned with the IWD theme, Accelerate Action, the initiative underscores the urgency of advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality in the food industry, enabling them to make meaningful strides in their businesses and communities.

Speaking at the event, Funmi Osineye, Business Manager for Nestlé Professional in Nigeria, highlighted the importance of food vendors in providing essential nutrition to their communities.

“Through 10 editions of this workshop across different states, we have received numerous testimonials—especially from women—whose businesses have experienced remarkable growth. As the world pushes for greater opportunities for women, we are excited to continue offering this platform to help them build sustainable businesses and expand their impact in the food sector. Additionally, we aim to create networking opportunities that foster valuable business connections and collaborations,” she said.

For the first time, this edition featured a panel discussion with notable figures in the food industry.

Princess Esther Eruanga, Deputy Director at the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and Dame Joy Ozigbo Ideh, Founder of Edo Caterers and Managing Director of 70’s Grill Caterers, shared their inspiring journeys and practical insights on overcoming challenges in the sector.

Commending the initiative, Princess Esther Eruanga said, “This workshop aligns perfectly with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, highlighting the essential role women play in shaping communities and economies. By empowering female food entrepreneurs, this event contributes to creating a more inclusive and thriving food ecosystem.”

A key highlight of the event was a masterclass led by celebrity Chef Vivian, Managing Director of Wedding and Things Events, where participants learned practical skills and techniques to enhance their business operations.

Attendees shared positive feedback, noting significant improvements in their understanding of essential business practices, which will help them provide better services and increase sales.

One of the students at Caviar Culinary Art Schools said, “I learned so much from the panel discussions with professionals. This experience will be invaluable when I start my own food kitchen in the future.”

Beyond celebrating the achievements of women in the food industry, the event reaffirmed Nestlé Professional’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where female entrepreneurs can thrive. Through initiatives like the Business of Food workshop, Nestlé continues to support and empower food business owners in building successful enterprises.
