Kadaga Receives Africa Women’s Good Governance Award in Morocco

Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, has been honored with the prestigious Africa Women’s Good Governance Award in Marrakesh, Morocco.

The award recognizes her enduring commitment to transparency, integrity, and exemplary leadership in public service.

Kadaga is celebrated for her outstanding legacy, including her historic two-term tenure as Speaker of Parliament and her unwavering advocacy for women’s empowerment and good governance across Africa.

Organizers highlighted her impactful parliamentary leadership and dedication to accountability as key reasons for her selection.

In a post on her official X account (formerly Twitter), Kadaga dedicated the award to her constituents and to FIDA Uganda, with whom she launched Uganda’s first legal aid service.

She also acknowledged her colleagues in the 7th through 10th Parliaments, as well as her involvement with the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) – both African and international branches – and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), where she championed the inclusion of women in decision-making roles.

“I dedicate this award to my electorate, FIDA Uganda, the MPs of the 7th to 10th Parliament, CWP (Africa and International), and IPU, where we broke barriers in women’s representation,” she wrote.

The award ceremony brought together dignitaries from across the continent and the diaspora, including Hajia Aishatou, First Lady of Yobe State; Ms. Adesoji of Michigan State University; Moses Silasia, Governor of Kano State; and Alhaji Kabir Yusuf from Nigeria.

This recognition adds another significant achievement to Kadaga’s distinguished public service journey, further solidifying her status as one of Uganda’s most influential female leaders both regionally and globally.
