From War-Torn Childhood to Water Warrior: The Inspirational Journey of Saran Kaba Jones

Saran Kaba Jones is a powerhouse of innovation, resilience, and social impact—an African entrepreneur changing lives one drop at a time.

Born in 1982 in Monrovia, Liberia, her early years were upheaved by civil war, forcing her family to move across the globe from Côte d’Ivoire to Egypt, France, and Cyprus.

These challenging experiences sharpened her adaptability and fueled a global outlook that would shape her future.

After earning a Government and International Relations degree from Harvard, Saran’s career began in Singapore’s Economic Development Board. But it was a 2008 return to her homeland, Liberia, that ignited her true calling: confronting the devastating water crisis crippling rural communities. The lack of clean water and sanitation wasn’t just an infrastructure problem—it was a matter of life and death.

In response, Saran founded FACE Africa in 2009, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) to the most underserved parts of sub-Saharan Africa.

Her leadership has powered countless projects—from building wells and installing purification systems to teaching vital hygiene practices—that have transformed thousands of lives.

Her work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a TIME Next Generation Leader, and one of Forbes’s 20 Youngest Power Women in Africa, Saran speaks passionately worldwide about sustainable development, gender equality, and social entrepreneurship’s potential to solve Africa’s toughest challenges.

Saran Kaba Jones’s story is a compelling testament to how vision, grit, and purpose can rewrite destinies. From a displaced child to a global champion of change, she’s proving that access to clean water isn’t just a luxury—it’s a human right and the foundation for Africa’s bright future.
