    American Business Council Appoints Nneka Enwereji as President and Chairman of the Board

    The American Business Council (ABC) Nigeria has announced the appointment of Nneka Enwereji as its new President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

    Enwereji, who previously served as Vice President of the Council, succeeds Sops Ideriah, bringing to the role a distinguished record of leadership in banking and international business. 

    She is currently the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Citibank Nigeria Limited, and also serves as Citi Country Officer and Banking Head for Nigeria and Ghana.

    Throughout her career, Enwereji has consistently demonstrated resilience, strategic acumen, and a deep commitment to fostering client relationships and building transformative partnerships. 

    She has held previous leadership roles at Citi include Co-Head of Global Network Banking (GNB) for the Middle East and Africa, GNB Head for Sub-Saharan Africa, and Africa Trade Services Head. She has also contributed her expertise in various non-executive board roles.

    An accomplished academic, Nneka holds a first-class degree in Computer Science and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, an MBA from Warwick Business School in the United Kingdom, and has completed executive education at both the Yale School of Management and UC Berkeley.

    Following her confirmation at the Council’s recent board meeting, Enwereji expressed gratitude to her predecessor and shared her vision for the Council’s future.

    “It is a privilege to lead the American Business Council (ABC) in Nigeria at this pivotal time. At a time of dynamic global shifts and economic transformation, ABC’s role in deepening cross-border business collaboration has never been more critical. I look forward to working with the Secretariat and Board members to steer the direction of the Council, deepen U.S.-Nigeria trade ties, foster investment, and advance a more resilient business environment,” she said.

    The American Business Council is the voice of American businesses in Nigeria, advocating for a thriving business climate, facilitating U.S.-Nigeria trade and investment, and promoting ethical business practices.
