Ozioma Agu’s Bold Blueprint for Africa’s Energy and Infrastructure Renaissance

In a global business landscape where women remain under-represented in boardrooms and at the helm of critical infrastructure projects, Ozioma Agu is not merely navigating the system — she’s reengineering it.

At the confluence of law, finance, and infrastructure, Agu stands out as a dynamic force shaping Africa’s energy evolution and economic advancement.

As Partner at Stren & Blan Partners, Ozioma leads the firm’s Energy, Finance, and Infrastructure Practice Group with a precision that blends legal acuity with business foresight.

Her track record tells a compelling story: over $3 billion in banking and project finance transactions, spanning domestic and cross-border deals that have connected public institutions, private investors, and international lenders to some of Africa’s most strategic infrastructure initiatives.

But beyond the numbers is a deeper impact — one that speaks to her role as a catalytic leader in sectors fundamental to the continent’s growth.

Her legal and transactional expertise spans secured and unsecured cross-border lending, project finance, syndicated lending, and structured finance. T

Through these complex structures, she’s played a pivotal role in powering key oil and gas operations, bolstering Nigeria’s electricity supply, and opening the door to cleaner, alternative energy sources.

Among her notable achievements: advising on the acquisition of major international oil company assets in Nigeria, enabling critical funding for Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) depots, and architecting the legal framework for a private-sector-led electricity market in Eastern Nigeria — a project with transformative implications for regional energy access and economic resilience.

Her commitment to renewable energy is no less significant.

By advising on the expansion of solar mini-grid projects in off-grid communities, Agu is helping electrify not only homes and businesses but also the aspirations of thousands — proving that sustainable energy can be both a commercial and social imperative.

Her influence stretches beyond energy. In the infrastructure arena, Agu has been instrumental in crafting Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) that deliver measurable impact.

From advising on a pioneering road development under Nigeria’s Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme (RITC), to guiding the concessioning of a critical seaport in Libreville, Gabon, to facilitating mining initiatives in Northern Nigeria, she’s continually at the helm of projects that matter — regionally and economically.

Recognition has followed. Between 2021 and 2024, she received accolades from IFLR, the Legal 500 Directory, and the ESQ 40 Under 40 Awards.

In 2024, the African Energy Chamber named her one of the “25 Under 40 Energy Women Rising Stars” — a distinction that reflects both her growing influence and the urgency of the work she leads.

Yet for all her accomplishments, Agu remains grounded in purpose. She is intentional about creating pathways for inclusive growth, particularly for women in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

Her career is not just an individual ascent, but a case study in how talent, strategy, and vision can converge to shape a more equitable and sustainable future for Africa.

As the continent charts a path forward — one increasingly defined by innovation, infrastructure, and clean energy — Ozioma Agu is not simply part of the conversation. She is helping write the next chapter.
