Olawunmi Fakoya: Transforming Nigerian Cuisine Through Innovation and Empowerment

Looking at the dynamic landscape of Nigeria’s food industry, few entrepreneurs have made as significant an impact as Olawunmi Okikiola Fakoya.

As the founder and CEO of JDP Global Tech Farm Nig Ltd, Fakoya has seamlessly blended her expertise in food technology with entrepreneurial acumen to revolutionize the way Nigerians perceive and consume traditional foods.

Fakoya’s journey began with a solid foundation in food science. After obtaining her Higher National Diploma in Food Technology from Lagos State Polytechnic, she honed her skills as a Quality Control Inspector and Auditor at Promasidor Nigeria Limited, a leading food manufacturing company.

During her time there, she developed a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of food safety standards, which would later become instrumental in her entrepreneurial pursuits.

In 2014, driven by a passion to make traditional Nigerian foods more accessible and convenient, Fakoya established JDP Global Tech Farm Nig Ltd.

The company specializes in agro-processing, transforming local staples into ready-to-use products without compromising on nutritional value.

From powdered pap to bean flour, JDP’s offerings cater to the modern consumer’s need for convenience without sacrificing the authenticity of traditional flavors

Fakoya’s innovative approach stems from personal experiences.

Frustrated by the time-consuming process of preparing dishes like akara and the challenges of preserving pap, she leveraged her background in food technology to develop products that retain the essence of these traditional meals while offering ease of preparation.

Her commitment to using natural ingredients and avoiding chemical additives has resonated with health-conscious consumers seeking wholesome alternatives.

Beyond product innovation, Fakoya is dedicated to empowering aspiring entrepreneurs.

Through JDP’s white labeling and contract manufacturing services, she provides a platform for emerging foodpreneurs to launch their brands without the overhead of setting up processing facilities.

This initiative not only fosters entrepreneurship but also contributes to the diversification and growth of Nigeria’s food industry.

Scaling a manufacturing business in Nigeria comes with its set of challenges, from securing funding to managing supply chains. However, Fakoya has navigated these hurdles with resilience, often relying on strategic partnerships and community support to propel her business forward. Her ability to adapt and innovate has been key to JDP’s sustained growth and success.

Looking ahead, Fakoya envisions JDP Global Tech Farm as a household name synonymous with quality and convenience in traditional Nigerian foods. She aims to expand the company’s reach both locally and internationally, bringing the rich flavors of Nigeria to a global audience.

Additionally, she plans to allocate a portion of the company’s profits to charitable causes, including support for orphanages, out-of-school children, and widows, reflecting her commitment to social impact alongside business growth.

In a market where tradition meets innovation, Olawunmi Fakoya stands out as a visionary leader, transforming Nigeria’s culinary landscape while empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs.
