Kenya’s middle- and long-distance running queens, Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet, delivered historic performances at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon — rewriting the record books in style.
Kipyegon, 31, shattered her own women’s 1500m world record, clocking a blistering 3:48.68 to trim 0.36 seconds off her previous best.
The three-time Olympic champion achieved the feat just over a week after narrowly missing her goal of becoming the first woman to run a sub-four-minute mile.

In another highlight for Kenyan athletics, 25-year-old Beatrice Chebet broke the women’s 5,000m world record with a stunning time of 13:58.06, surpassing the previous mark set by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay in the same city two years ago.
“When I came to Eugene, my goal was to run a world record,” Chebet said. “I’m so happy.”
Both athletes were part of a glittering line-up at the Prefontaine Classic, which featured 17 Paris Olympic champions and 14 world-record holders.
Chebet now holds global titles in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, underlining her dominance in long-distance running.
