Top five female African entrepreneurs in Blockchain & Cryptocurrency (Crypto Trading, DeFi, NFTs)

While blockchain and cryptocurrency are often seen as male-dominated frontiers, a powerful cohort of African women is changing that narrative—one block at a time.
These trailblazers are leading startups and building infrastructure, reshaping financial systems, and creating opportunities for women and marginalized communities across the continent.
From launching Africa-focused crypto exchanges to pioneering Web3 education and cross-border fintech solutions, these five women are at the forefront of Africa’s decentralized revolution.
Their vision and leadership are propelling the continent into a new era of digital finance and blockchain innovation.

    1. Ruth Iselema (Nigeria)

Ruth is the co-founder and CEO of Bitmama, Nigeria’s first woman-led cryptocurrency exchange with operations across Africa, Europe, and the U.S. She has been instrumental in promoting blockchain adoption and innovation in Nigeria, developing blockchain-based solutions tailored to the Nigerian market.

    2. Olayinka Odeniran (Nigeria)

Olayinka is the founder of the Black Women Blockchain Council, an organization dedicated to increasing the representation of Black women in blockchain and fintech. She also owns CyberSecWatch, a cybersecurity firm offering consulting services to small businesses. Her achievements have earned her recognition from CoinTelegraph as one of the top 10 women making a difference through crypto in 2021.

    3. Oluchi Enebeli (Nigeria)

Oluchi is one of Nigeria’s first female blockchain engineers and has worked with major blockchain brands like Binance, Crypto.com, and Bundle. She co-founded Crevatal, a Web3 design agency, and established Web3 Ladies, a community aimed at onboarding 100,000 African women into blockchain technology.

    4. Alakanani Itireleng (Botswana)

Known as “The Bitcoin Lady,” Alakanani founded the Satoshicentre, a blockchain hub in Gaborone, Botswana. She has been a pioneer in promoting Bitcoin and blockchain education in Africa, working with developers to create solutions to everyday problems using blockchain technology.

    5. Elizabeth Rossiello (Kenya)

Elizabeth is the Founder and CEO of AZA Finance (formerly BitPesa), a company focused on cross-border payments and fintech innovation, leveraging blockchain technology to enable faster and more affordable transactions across African and G20 currencies; she has also served on the World Economic Forum’s Council on Blockchain and is a recognized speaker on digital assets and fintech.
