MTN Uganda Appoints Sylvia Elsheikh as Chief Marketing Officer

MTN Uganda has announced the appointment of Sylvia Elsheikh as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), effective today, July 14, 2025.

She succeeds Somdev Sen, who is transitioning to new responsibilities within the broader MTN Group after a successful tenure in Uganda.

Elsheikh brings over 18 years of experience in the telecommunications and commercial sectors, with proven strengths in marketing strategy, customer acquisition, digital transformation, and product innovation.

Prior to her new role, Sylvia served as CMO at Airtel Zambia (2022–2025), where she was instrumental in solidifying the company’s market dominance—achieving over 60% value share—and leading the deployment of Zambia’s largest 5G and LTE TDD networks.

Under her leadership, Airtel also launched VoLTE services, establishing itself as a tech leader in the country.

Her earlier career includes notable positions within MTN Sudan, where she served as CMO (2016–2022), Senior Manager for Segment Pricing & Acquisition (2015–2016), and Value-Added Services (VAS) Manager (2011–2014). She began her professional journey with roles in VAS and Core Network Planning at Sudani Telecom and Canar Telecom in Sudan.

In her remarks, Elsheikh expressed excitement about returning to the MTN family:

“I am thrilled to return to the MTN family and excited to join MTN Uganda, a brand that stands tall for innovation, inclusion, and impact. I look forward to working with the talented team to continue delivering bold, relevant, and customer-focused marketing strategies that resonate with Uganda’s dynamic market.”

Welcoming her to the team, Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, stated:

“Sylvia’s extensive regional experience, proven leadership, and passion for customer-centric marketing make her a valuable addition to our executive team. We are confident she will play a key role in sustaining our market leadership and shaping the next phase of our growth.”

Elsheikh holds a Master of Science in Business Administration (with a specialization in Marketing Management) and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Her blend of technical expertise and commercial insight positions her to drive MTN Uganda’s digital transformation agenda, deepen customer engagement, and fuel long-term growth.
