Kepler College has announced the appointment of Dr. Emelyne Umunoza Gasana as its new Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Research Affairs, effective August 1, 2025.
Dr. Umunoza Gasana brings a wealth of experience in higher education, with a strong background in teaching, curriculum design, and research.
Her leadership is expected to elevate Kepler’s academic and research endeavors and strengthen its strategic vision.
Chairperson of the Kepler College Council, Ambassador Charles Murigande, welcomed the appointment with enthusiasm:
“Dr. Umunoza Gasana brings significant expertise in mathematics and data analytics, which align closely with the College’s academic priorities. Her dedication to students, collaborative spirit, and visionary leadership will undoubtedly contribute to Kepler’s continued growth and impact.”
Dr. Umunoza Gasana currently serves as Program Lead for Business Analytics and is an established academic leader and researcher. She holds a PhD in Mathematical Statistics from Linköping University (Sweden), an MSc in Technomathematics from LUT (Finland), and a BSc in Applied Mathematics from KIST (Rwanda).

She is also an active advocate for STEM education and women’s leadership in science, participating in networks such as RAWISE, OWSD, and RYAS.
In recognition of her academic work, she received the Young Scientists Prize at the LinStat Conference in Portugal.
In his remarks, Prof. Baylie Damtie congratulated Dr. Gasana and expressed anticipation for the collaborative progress ahead:
“I look forward to working alongside Dr. Gasana to further Kepler’s mission of delivering practical, experience-based education that prepares students for real-world success. Her leadership will help advance innovation, learning outcomes, and research impact.”
Dr. Umunoza Gasana also shared her excitement about the new role:
“It is a great honor to serve Kepler College during this exciting phase of growth. I am eager to collaborate with faculty and students to strengthen our academic programs, foster impactful research, and drive community engagement aligned with our strategic goals.”
The College also extended its gratitude to Jean Pierre Mutambarungu, who has served as Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, for his dedication and contributions during a key period of transition and development.
