    WAFCON 2024: Ajibade, Okoronkwo, Nnadozie, and Alozie Named in Tournament’s Best XI

    Four standout players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons—Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie—have been named in the Best XI of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

    The selection, curated by the tournament’s Technical Study Group, highlights the players’ exceptional performances throughout the competition in Morocco.

    Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was also crowned Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, impressed with four clean sheets and conceded only two goals from open play, both of which were during the final against Morocco.

    Michelle Alozie, of Houston Dash, earned recognition as the Best Right-Back. She featured in five of Nigeria’s six matches, contributing solidly to the team’s defensive line.

    Esther Okoronkwo dazzled with her pace and creativity, scoring two goals and providing six assists across six appearances. The AFC Toronto winger also clinched two Woman of the Match awards for her standout performances.

    Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. The 24-year-old notched one goal, two assists, and won three Woman of the Match awards, anchoring the team’s leadership on and off the pitch.

    The quartet played vital roles in securing Nigeria’s historic 10th WAFCON title, reaffirming the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football.
