Angie Jones: Driving Open‑Source Innovation at Block

At the frontier of the decentralised web, Angie Jones stands out as a pioneering force.

As the Global Vice President of Developer Relations at Block, Inc., Angie leads the charge in building open-source tools, guiding developer communities, and ensuring that equity and access are central to fintech innovation.

A seasoned software engineer and automation architect, Angie holds over 25 U.S. and Chinese patents, earning her the prestigious title “Master Inventor” for breakthrough work in metaverse systems, collaboration tools, and software development processes.

Her patented innovations reflect her bold, out-of-the-box mindset and deep technical acumen.

At Block’s TBD division—focused on open-source financial protocols—Angie oversees global DevRel strategy.

She drives developer education, advocates for inclusive building, and shapes tools that empower developers to build the future of decentralised finance.

Angie’s career began at IBM, where she earned 26 patents and learnt the transformative value of mentorship early on.

Inspired by her own mentors, she launched public mentorship initiatives in 2012—and has since become a recognised leader in “modern mentorship.”

Through social media, live audio events, and group community models, she offers accessible guidance to under-represented developers globally.

Her digital mentorship approach not only scales impact but also builds connective tissue between aspiring technologists and those already shaping the industry:

“I mentor publicly because I can’t be inside every tech company,” Angie explains. “But I can be one tweet away for someone who needs guidance.”

A sought-after keynote speaker and educator, Angie has shared her expertise at conferences including All Things Open and DeveloperWeek.

Her sessions often explore developer experience, AI-enabled APIs, and the future of testing in open-source-powered fintech systems.

She also founded Test Automation University, a free online learning platform reaching tens of thousands of students worldwide—a testament to her belief in democratising access to education in software testing and quality engineering.

Angie Jones is more than a technologist—she’s an architect of inclusive innovation. She shapes tools that developers use, mentors those who shape industry, and champions openness in an era of closed systems.

Her footprint extends from patented inventions to mentorship communities and from education platforms to open-source fintech standards.

Her work is the convergence of invention, community, and access—a model for what tech leadership can and should be.
