The University of Port Harcourt has announced the appointment of Professor Rosemary Ogu as its new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics).
The election by the university’s Senate marks a significant milestone in the career of the distinguished academic, who is renowned for her contributions to Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as women’s health advocacy.
Professor Ogu is an associate faculty member at Ariadne Labs, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts.
A leading voice in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, she has spearheaded numerous research initiatives focused on adolescent and women’s health and has authored over 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books.
In a statement following her appointment, Professor Ogu expressed gratitude to the Senate for their confidence in her leadership:

She also looks forward to working alongside Vice Chancellor Professor Owunari Georgewill, as well as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Chukwudi Onyeaso and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Development) Professor Angela Frank-Briggs, in pursuit of academic excellence and institutional advancement.
Her appointment is pending ratification by the University Council.
