Independence Day: Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Embrace Productivity, Support Local Industry

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his nationwide broadcast marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary today, called on citizens to embrace productivity, innovation, and enterprise as the driving forces for national growth.

The President emphasized that Nigeria must move beyond being a consumer-driven economy to become a nation of producers.

Using the recent reforms in passport processing at the Ministry of Interior as an example of improved efficiency, he urged both individuals and state governments to join hands in advancing national development.

“Let us farm our land and build factories to process our produce. Let us patronize made-in-Nigeria goods. I say Nigeria first. Let us pay our taxes,” Tinubu said.

He acknowledged that his administration’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy, have brought short-term hardships.

He however maintained that allowing the country to slip into economic chaos or bankruptcy was never an option, stressing that the temporary pains are necessary sacrifices for long-term stability and growth.

The President reiterated his vision of repositioning Nigeria among its global peers by fostering a culture of local production, industrialization, and collective responsibility.
