Tanzania’s Neema Haji Appointed to FIFA Youth Girls’ Competition Committee

FIFA has appointed Tanzanian football administrator, Neema Haji, as a member of its Youth Girls’ Competition Committee, marking a significant milestone for women’s football in Africa.

The appointment, confirmed by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), places Haji among the few African representatives participating in global football governance under FIFA’s newly reconstituted committees.

According to CECAFA, the Tanzanian official’s selection underscores FIFA’s commitment to ensuring balanced representation and inclusion of African voices, particularly women, in its key decision-making structures.

Haji is expected to contribute to the development, regulation, and promotion of youth girls’ football globally.

Her new role will also involve advising on competition formats, technical frameworks, and policies aimed at strengthening grassroots participation and advancing female football development.

Her appointment has been widely celebrated in Tanzania, where stakeholders described it as a testament to the country’s growing influence in international football.

CECAFA, in a statement, congratulated Haji and other East African officials who secured positions in various FIFA committees, noting that the region’s increasing visibility in world football administration reflects years of investment in leadership and development programmes.

Haji has previously held several positions within Tanzania’s football administration, playing an active role in the promotion of women’s football across the country.

With her appointment, Tanzania joins the list of African nations making strides toward greater inclusion in the global football landscape, a move observers say will inspire more women to pursue leadership roles in sports management.
