Harriet Tibulihwa Nominated As Kakumiro Woman MP

Harriet Tibulihwa Ssale has officially joined the race for Kakumiro District Woman Member of Parliament as an Independent candidate, following her nomination ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

Her nomination was confirmed by district tallying officer Honest Baguma at the Kakumiro District Electoral Commission office, where enthusiastic supporters chanted “Time for Change!”

According to Nile Post’s report, after receiving her nomination certificate, Tibulihwa pledged to promote unity and improve service delivery, emphasizing her vision for a more accountable and people-centered leadership.

“My mission is simple — to bring people together and ensure that government initiatives truly reach our communities,” she said. “Kakumiro deserves better service delivery, accountability, and leaders who listen.”

Tibulihwa explained that she chose to run independently after alleging irregularities and favoritism during the ruling NRM party primaries.

Despite her independent status, she reaffirmed her support for President Yoweri Museveni, describing her decision as a constitutional exercise rather than rebellion.

Her campaign symbol — a watch — has become a unifying emblem across the district, symbolizing what she calls “time for change” and a shift from “politics to service.”

District Chairperson Ssentayi Ssekusu Joseph hailed her nomination as “timely and transformative,” praising her leadership as a step toward bridging service delivery gaps.

Tibulihwa identified poor roads, weak healthcare, and limited educational access as the district’s main challenges, attributing them to disunity among local leaders. She called for inclusive governance that ensures “every village and every person has a voice.”

Her message of unity has resonated particularly with young voters and women, many of whom see her as a fresh and determined voice for community-driven development.

“Her watch tells us our time is now,” said one supporter. “The time for Kakumiro to rise has come.
