MSME Africa has announced the launch of the MSME Africa Growth Factory Accelerator Program, an intensive eight-week initiative aimed at equipping Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with the skills, mentorship, and funding opportunities needed to thrive in Nigeria’s challenging business environment.
MSMEs are widely regarded as the backbone of economic growth in Nigeria and across Africa. However, despite their potential, these businesses continue to face critical obstacles such as limited access to finance, poor power supply, insecurity, foreign exchange fluctuations, and infrastructural deficits. Additionally, stringent government policies further compound the difficulties of scaling operations.
According to the State of Entrepreneurship Report 2024, only 63% of female-led businesses in Nigeria reported growth, a significant decline from 74% in 2023. Similarly, just 67% of MSME owners have expressed intentions to expand their businesses in 2024, a sharp drop from 86% recorded the previous year. These figures highlight the pressing need for structured interventions to enhance enterprise sustainability.
While existing government initiatives, including various incubator and accelerator programs, have provided some relief, their impact remains limited. The MSME Africa Growth Factory aims to bridge these gaps by offering a robust support system tailored to early-stage and mid-level entrepreneurs, particularly youth and women-led enterprises.
