Nigerian striker Esther Okoronkwo is set to embark on a new career chapter after officially signing with Canadian club AFC Toronto.

AFC Toronto will compete in Canada’s inaugural women’s professional league, the Northern Super League, which kicks off its debut season on April 16 with six teams from various locations across the country.

A member of Nigeria’s national team, the Super Falcons, Okoronkwo brings her skill and experience to Canada’s top tier after transferring from Chinese side Changchun Dazhong.

The 27-year-old forward, known for her blistering pace and goal-scoring ability, is expected to strengthen AFC Toronto’s attacking lineup.

Expressing their excitement about her signing, AFC Toronto’s sporting director Billy Wilson stated, “We are thrilled to welcome a player of Esther’s caliber to Toronto. She is most effective as a center forward and possesses the technical ability and skill set to make a real impact.”

Okoronkwo launched her professional career in France with AS Saint-Étienne’s women’s team before moving to Spain, where she played for UDG Tenerife.

She has been a consistent presence in Nigeria’s national squad, featuring in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and playing a key role in the 2024 Paris Olympics, helping Nigeria deliver a strong performance on the global stage.

Speaking about her move to Canada, Okoronkwo shared, “Women’s football in Canada is on the rise, and joining AFC Toronto presents an exciting opportunity for me. I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success and give my best for the fans.”
