Bunmi George: From Obstacle to Opportunity—Revolutionizing Health and Fitness in Nigeria

Bunmi George is a trailblazer, transforming her personal struggles into a powerful movement for change.

As the visionary founder of ShredderGang, a leading nutrition and fitness company,George is redefining what it means to live a healthy lifestyle.

George’s journey began with a deeply personal battle against obesity.

At just 18 years old, she weighed 130 kilograms, a reality that prompted a pivotal change during her university years in Canada.

Struggling to climb a flight of stairs without losing her breath, she made the life-altering decision to take control of her health.

Over 14 months, she achieved the remarkable feat of losing 55 kilograms, a transformation fueled by dedicated diet and exercise. This experience ignited a passion to help others facing similar challenges.

With degrees in Clinical Psychology and Dietetics from the University of Toronto, George returned to Nigeria brimming with ambition.

In 2012, at only 24, she founded ShredderGang without any upfront financial support. Drawing on her success story and professional expertise, she established a platform dedicated to guiding individuals toward healthier living.

ShredderGang quickly blossomed into one of Nigeria’s largest health and fitness communities, offering a comprehensive range of services, from personalized nutrition counselling to dynamic fitness programs.

George’s innovative vision extended to product development, culminating in the launch of the Shredder Fit belt, designed to provide modern fitness accessories at accessible prices.

The overwhelming demand for her products underscores the significant impact of her brand on the market.

Her contributions have not gone unnoticed. George has been recognized as one of Nigeria’s 100 Most Inspiring Women by Leading Ladies Africa in both 2017 and 2023, and featured among Genevieve Magazine’s Top 25 Women to Watch in 2019.

Additionally, she was honored by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu as one of the 100 Women Impacting the City of Lagos.

Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, George candidly acknowledges the hurdles of building a business from the ground up.

“Entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted. It is HARD WORK,” she asserts.

Her story, however, exemplifies the power of perseverance, vision, and the transformative nature of turning personal challenges into opportunities that benefit the broader community.

In a society where health and wellness are in the spotlight, Bunmi George personifies the profound impact of personal commitment and entrepreneurial spirit in driving societal change.
