The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed a viral video suggesting that it has launched a bike-powered petrol delivery service in partnership with a private company.
Speaking to the Punch yesterday, the refinery said it has no link to the video and has never authorised such an initiative.
The clip, which circulated widely on social media, showed a man avoiding fuel queues by ordering petrol via WhatsApp. A dispatch rider later arrives with a mini fuel dispenser mounted on his bike and fills the man’s car.
The promotional message claimed the service—branded FuelUp—was powered by “Dangote Petroleum,” prompting mixed reactions from Nigerians.
While some viewers applauded the convenience, others questioned the safety and legality of transporting petrol this way.
Dangote officials, however, said the advertisement is entirely false. The Group Chief Communication Officer, Anthony Chiejina, described the content as “fake,” insisting the refinery has no involvement with the supposed service.

Another official clarified that Dangote only supplies fuel to bulk buyers and has no agreement with any company to distribute petroleum products using motorcycles.
This clarification comes as the refinery continues its expansion efforts.
In September, Dangote began direct fuel distribution using hundreds of newly imported CNG-powered trucks, part of its broader strategy to modernise operations and strengthen logistics.
The refinery—located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone—is also scaling up production capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day in a move aimed at meeting Nigeria’s rising fuel demand and boosting the country’s competitiveness in the regional market.
Recent upgrades include investments in cleaner energy solutions, automated systems, and enhanced infrastructure for safer and more efficient product distribution.
The planned expansion reinforces Dangote’s long-term commitment to industrial growth, regional energy security, and sustainable operations within Africa’s largest oil and gas market.
