The Managing Director of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat Ltd), Jane Egerton-Idehen, has been appointed Vice-Chair of the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA).
GSOA represents the entire satellite ecosystem, from long-established operators to emerging innovators across different orbits and frequency bands.
Reacting to her appointment, Egerton-Idehen said satellites remain critical to bridging the digital divide in underserved regions.
“In emerging markets, satellite is often the only viable solution to bridge the digital divide. I am proud to help bring diverse perspectives to the global conversation and support GSOA in promoting inclusive and sustainable connectivity,” she told journalists.
The leadership shake-up also saw Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Space Services at Space42, named GSOA’s new Chair.
Having served as Vice-Chair since 2023, Al Hashemi described his election as both “deeply meaningful personally and professionally,” noting it reflects global confidence in his region’s contribution to satellite innovation.
In addition, Adel Al-Saleh, CEO of SES, was also appointed Vice-Chair, completing the association’s new leadership structure.

“GSOA’s role is to unite the satellite industry to speak with one voice to promote the essential value we bring to society, from emergency response and climate monitoring to universal broadband access,” she said in the statement published by VON.
Under its renewed leadership, GSOA has pledged to continue advocating for equitable spectrum access, balanced regulatory policies, and responsible use of outer space.
