Mahama Appoints Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy as Ghana’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy as Ghana’s Permanent Delegate (Ambassador) to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Her appointment—facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—designates her as the official head of Ghana’s permanent delegation to UNESCO, based at the organization’s headquarters in Paris.

The Ghana Commission for UNESCO announced the news yesterday, stating:

“A hearty congratulations to H.E. Mrs. Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy on your appointment as Ghana’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. We bid you welcome to the Commission!”

Lamptey Addy is the daughter of the late David Lamptey, a prominent businessman and key financier of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who represented the Klottey Korle Constituency in Parliament following the 1996 elections.

In 2023, she vied for the NDC ticket in the Klottey Korle parliamentary primaries but was defeated by Dr. Zanetor Rawlings.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ghana and an MBA from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

During her national service in 2008–2009, she served as personal assistant to her father at the Sidalco Group of Companies, which encompassed Dominion Oil, Radio XYZ, and TV XYZ.

An active member of the NDC, Lamptey Addy currently serves as the Ranking Member of the party’s National Business Development Committee and is also a member of the National Welfare Committee, the Sports Committee, and the GaDangme Caucus.
