    Building Africa’s Gateway to the Global Runway – Joan Okorodudu

    When discussions of African fashion’s global rise emerge, few names echo as powerfully as Joan Okorodudu. 

    The former beauty queen turned entrepreneur has spent the last two decades shaping a pipeline that takes raw African talent from Lagos to Paris, New York, and beyond. 

    As the Founder of Isis Models Africa, she has been instrumental in placing African models on some of the world’s most prestigious runways, redefining how the world sees African beauty.

    Okorodudu’s foray into the modeling industry was as unlikely as it was transformative. After winning Miss Nigeria in 1981, she pursued various interests, from television production to business. 

    But it was through fashion that she discovered her lasting mission: creating opportunities for African talent in an industry notorious for its exclusivity.

    In 2003, she launched Nigeria’s Next Supermodel competition, an initiative that gave aspiring models across the country a platform to be discovered. 

    From that platform, Isis Models Africa was born. 

    The agency has since represented models who have graced runways for brands such as Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Versace, proving that Africa is not a footnote but a formidable presence in the global modeling economy.

    Beyond talent scouting, Okorodudu has become a fierce advocate for representation and diversity in fashion. 

    She has consistently challenged the underrepresentation of African models in mainstream campaigns and insisted that African beauty, in all its diversity, deserves to be seen on the world stage.

    Her work is also deeply tied to mentorship. Many of the models she has discovered credit her with not only launching their careers but instilling the discipline and resilience needed to navigate the often brutal fashion industry.

    For Joan Okorodudu, Isis Models is more than an agency—it is a movement. 

    It is about building an industry infrastructure where none existed, proving that Africa can cultivate, manage, and export world-class talent on its own terms.

    In shaping Isis Models Africa, she has done more than produce supermodels; she has carved out a legacy that ensures African fashion and beauty will never again be overlooked.
