Crafting Nigeria’s Fragrance Story, One Signature Scent at a Time – Mena Emuh

In a marketplace buzzing with bold visuals, vibrant logos, and digital noise, Mena Emuh chose a different path—building her brand through the power of scent.

As the Managing Director and Lead Aromachologist at Cececa Scents, she is pioneering Nigeria’s luxury fragrance industry and carving out sensory identities for world-class brands.

Armed with a master’s degree in marketing from Cranfield University, Mena faced a familiar challenge: breaking into the UK advertising scene as an ambitious African professional.

Though the journey wasn’t smooth, she found her calling closer to home. Returning to Nigeria for her national service, she joined her family’s business, Cececa Scents, and gradually realised her niche: perfumery and branding through scent.

What began with taxi rides and client pitches across Lagos soon turned into a full-time commitment. “I grew dissatisfied with traditional employment and craved independence,” she reveals, explaining how hands‑on hustle evolved into a strategic departure from the corporate world. “Since then, I’ve never looked back.”

Under Mena’s leadership, Cececa has collaborated with iconic brands like Puma, Lacoste, and Oando—translating brand identity into scented experiences that linger.

Her creative design process draws from art, nature, fashion, and music to define emotions that a fragrance should evoke, aligning meticulously with a brand’s visual identity and atmosphere.

Each olfactory creation is a reflection of both science and artistry—a carefully balanced blend developed through experimentation, insight, and intentional storytelling.

Mena attributes her success to resilience. Despite rejections and early doubts, she maintained consistency and pushed forward.

“Persistence and consistency have been foundational,” she emphasizes. That mindset has allowed Cececa to thrive in Nigeria’s dynamic and often unpredictable market.

Through Cececa, Mena is expanding into the business-to-consumer sector—with candles, room sprays, and fragrance drops that bring her creations directly into homes.

This strategic move places Cececa on the map not only as a behind‑the‑scenes luxury partner but also as a beloved public-facing brand. Collaborations with local artisans are further enriching the company’s reach and community impact.

She also recently shared Cececa’s journey in a documentary designed to inspire other entrepreneurs and audiences by showcasing how delivering genuine value can elevate any business.

Mena’s approach is a blend of creative intuition and marketing insight—a perfect merger of what makes a brand seen and what makes it felt.

Her forecast for Africa’s business landscape is bold: “Africa is not merely emerging—it is firmly established.” With brands increasingly seeking multi-sensory differentiation, fragrance branding is poised to grow—and Mena is leading the charge.

In a world where brand identity often means visual splash, Mena Emuh is reminding us that what we smell can resonate just as deeply. She is redefining how Nigerian brands connect with customers—bringing elegance, emotion, and memory into the mix.

With Cececa Scents, she has not just built a company—she has crafted a legacy.
