Dangote Cement Empowers Youth Through Sports, Education

Dangote Cement Plc has launched its 2025 Sustainability Week at the Obajana Plant with a dynamic lineup of activities centered on sportsmanship, education, and community partnership under the theme “Sustainable Progress: Celebrating Growth and Partnerships.”

The weeklong event, according to the Punch, which kicked off on October 24, underscores the company’s commitment to holistic community development and youth empowerment.

It featured football tournaments, educational competitions, and other engagement programmes designed to strengthen relationships between the company and its host communities.

A major highlight of the celebration was the football tournament, where the Oyo Community Football Team clinched victory over Dangote Cement Transport with a 1–0 win at the grand finale held on October 29, 2025, at the Obajana Academy Field.

The matches drew enthusiastic crowds and participation from employees and community teams alike, promoting teamwork, unity, and physical well-being.

They commended the event for strengthening bonds between Dangote Cement and its host communities.

Complementing the sports programme was an Inter-School Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition, which brought together ten secondary schools from neighboring communities.

Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, emerged as the Spelling Bee champion, showcasing the company’s dedication to promoting education and intellectual growth among young people.

Speaking at the event, Plant Director Azad Nawabuddin emphasized that Dangote Cement’s investment in sports and education reflects its broader vision for community well-being.

“The football tournament we witnessed today does much more than provide entertainment—it builds character, teaches valuable life lessons, and forges stronger partnerships between our organization and the communities we serve,” he said.

Head of HAM-Admin/HR, Peter Agba, added that the initiative represents a strategic blend of physical and intellectual development.

“By engaging youths through sports and stimulating their minds through academic competitions, we are laying the foundation for sustainable growth and empowerment,” he noted.

The 2025 Sustainability Week will continue with other activities such as environmental initiatives, health awareness campaigns, and skills development workshops.

Dangote Cement reaffirmed its commitment to year-round community engagement, ensuring that empowerment efforts extend beyond the annual event.

Through these initiatives, the company continues to demonstrate how businesses can drive social impact by integrating sports, education, and sustainability into their community development strategy.
