Ezeibe Becomes NCRIB’s Third Female President

The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has elected Ekeoma Ezeibe as its new president, making her the third woman to hold the position in the Council’s 63-year history.

According to a statement issued by the NCRIB on Saturday, Ezeibe will be officially sworn in on October 24, 2025, in Lagos.

The Council described her as an accomplished insurance lawyer and broker whose expertise and integrity will strengthen the organisation’s leadership role within Nigeria’s insurance sector.

Ezeibe has served on the NCRIB’s Governing Board in various capacities, including Vice President and Deputy President.

The statement highlighted her “rich knowledge of insurance law, integrity, and social capital,” noting that she has consistently contributed immense value to all professional arms of the industry.

A native of Abia State and born into royalty, Ezeibe attended Holy Rosary Secondary School, Umuahia, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel College, Emekuku, Owerri. She earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the former Imo State University (now Abia State University) and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Lagos. She was called to the Nigerian Bar 38 years ago after completing her training at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.

Ezeibe began her professional journey in the Legal Department of Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation (Nigeria Re) during her National Youth Service (1987/1988). She later worked under renowned insurance expert Professor Joe Irukwu, SAN, who greatly influenced her early career.

In 1991, she joined Liberty Assurance Company Limited as Company Secretary, Legal Adviser, and Head of the Claims Department. The following year, she became the pioneering Company Secretary and Legal Adviser at Industrial & General Insurance Company Limited. She later co-founded Crystal Trust Insurance Brokers Limited with her husband, where she currently serves as Managing Director/CEO.

Ezeibe holds several professional qualifications, including:

    • Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (London) with distinctions in Claims Practice and Strategic Risk Management.
    • Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
    • Fellow of the Council of Registered Insurance Brokers.

She has delivered over 40 pro bono lectures on insurance, law, and compliance across platforms such as the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Insurance Industry Consultative Council, and African Insurance Brokers Association.

A leading voice in insurance reform, Ezeibe has been a strong advocate for the development of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025. She has also lectured in Marine Insurance at the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping for the past 14 years.

Her leadership journey within the NCRIB includes serving as Honorary Treasurer (2017–2019), Vice President (2021–2023), and Deputy President (2023–2025). She has also held key roles at the continental level, including Secretary (2022–2024) and Treasurer (2024–2025) of the African Insurance Brokers’ Association, where she currently serves as Vice Chair—the first woman ever to hold the position.

Ezeibe also played a vital role in establishing the Africa Insurance Women Association, helping to formalise its constitution and officiating the inauguration of its first president in 2023.

In addition to her numerous industry contributions, she serves on the Insurance Committee of the International Chamber of Shipping, London, underscoring her influence on both local and international insurance platforms.
