Hamamat Montia Named Ghana’s Cultural Ambassador for Shea Butter

FORMER beauty queen and entrepreneur, Hamamat Montia has been appointed Ghana’s Cultural Ambassador for Shea Butter by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

The appointment conferred by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, was formally announced during a brief ceremony at the ministry.

Montia received a citation recognising her outstanding commitment, vision, and global advocacy for Ghana’s shea butter industry.

In her remarks, Minister Gomashie underscored the vital role culture plays in national development, describing it as a foundational pillar rather than a decorative element.

She explained that Montia’s appointment is more than symbolic, noting that it reinforces Ghana’s cultural identity and strengthens how it is presented on the global stage.

“I am deeply honoured to preside over the appointment of Hamamat Montia as Cultural Ambassador for Ghana Shea Butter.

She embodies the true meaning of cultural ambassadorship in the 21st century,” the minister stated.

Montia, who is Founder and CEO of the Shea Butter Museum, expressed appreciation for the recognition, emphasizing that she views the role as a responsibility rather than a mere title.

According to her, the appointment represents the women who safeguard shea trees, the communities that preserve indigenous knowledge, and the generations who will inherit the industry.

“For years, I have worked quietly to conserve, educate, and share the story of shea butter with the world. Shea butter is more than a beauty product; it provides livelihoods for millions of women across Africa,” she said.

The event featured a cultural dance performance and a photo session.

The recognition follows Montia’s recent feature during an American streamer ’s visit to Ghana, which brought renewed international attention to the country’s culture and creative industries.

Reports indicate that the viral moment generated significant local and international orders for her products, prompting calls for stronger partnerships to promote Ghanaian shea butter globally.
