Meet Violet Amoabeng—The Ghanaian Entrepreneur Redefining Beauty with Edible Skincare

In an industry saturated with synthetic concoctions and glossy marketing, Violet Amoabeng stands out as a beacon of authenticity and innovation.

As the founder and CEO of Skin Gourmet, a Ghanaian skincare brand, Amoabeng has carved a niche by creating products so pure they’re literally edible.

Her journey from a modest startup to an internationally recognized brand exemplifies the transformative power of purpose-driven entrepreneurship.

In 2014, with just $45 in her pocket, Amoabeng embarked on a mission to revolutionize skincare.

Drawing inspiration from traditional Ghanaian ingredients like shea butter, moringa, and baobab, she began crafting products in her kitchen that were free from preservatives and artificial additives.

Her philosophy was simple yet profound: “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.”

This commitment to purity and sustainability resonated with consumers, propelling Skin Gourmet to international markets.

Today, the brand exports to over 25 countries across five continents, including the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Beyond creating high-quality skincare, Amoabeng is deeply invested in social impact. Skin Gourmet sources its ingredients directly from Ghanaian farmers, ensuring fair compensation and supporting local economies.

The company also prioritizes employment opportunities for young people without formal education, with most employees under the age of 35.

Amoabeng’s approach to business is holistic, intertwining product excellence with community development.

Her efforts have not gone unnoticed; in 2021, she was named a top 10 finalist in the Africa’s Business Heroes competition by the Jack Ma Foundation, standing out among over 12,000 applicants from across the continent.

Amoabeng’s journey is a testament to the power of aligning business with cultural heritage and ethical values. By leveraging traditional Ghanaian knowledge and sustainable practices, she has created a brand that not only offers exceptional products but also contributes positively to society.

In an era where consumers are increasingly conscious of the origins and impacts of their purchases, Skin Gourmet stands as a model for how businesses can thrive by staying true to their roots and committing to meaningful change.

As Violet Amoabeng continues to expand her brand’s reach, she remains steadfast in her mission: to develop people one jar at a time, proving that beauty, when rooted in authenticity and purpose, can indeed be transformative.
