Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has recorded a strong opening for her latest film, Behind the Scenes, in the United States and Canada, where it grossed a combined $301,505 during its opening weekend.

Figures shared by the film’s executive producer show that the movie earned $190,249 from U.S. cinemas and $111,256 in Canada within its first three days of release.

Akindele described the achievement as overwhelming, expressing gratitude to audiences across both markets for their support.

The North American showing comes on the heels of the film’s impressive run in West Africa, where it crossed the ₦2 billion mark at the box office to become the region’s highest-grossing film of all time.

Directed by Funke Akindele alongside Tunde Olaoye, Behind the Scenes features a star-studded cast including Destiny Etiko, Ibrahim Chatta, Ini Dima-Okojie, Iyabo Ojo, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe and Victoria Adeleye.

The 12A-rated drama runs for two hours and 24 minutes and follows the story of Aderonke “Ronky-Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate entrepreneur whose generosity to others begins to take a toll on her personal life.

The film, produced under the Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, is currently showing in major cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana.

Akindele previously revealed that production costs exceeded ₦1 billion, underscoring the scale of investment behind the project.

Following its release, the filmmaker cautioned viewers against recording or sharing clips from the movie, warning that piracy could negatively affect its commercial performance.

With Behind the Scenes, Akindele has further cemented her position as Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, extending a record-breaking box office run that has seen her productions generate over ₦5 billion in combined earnings over the past three years.
