Ghana to Host 2025 African Women Conference in November

Ghana will host the 2025 edition of the African Women Conference (AWC) from November 26 to 28, welcoming women leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and advocates from across Africa and the diaspora.

The three-day event will focus on driving gender equity, leadership, and sustainable development across the continent.

Themed “Legacy Meets Innovation: Women Forging New Pathways for Africa’s Sustainable Development,” the conference aims to foster collaboration, policy dialogue, and partnerships that enhance women’s participation in governance, innovation, and economic growth.

According to a statement released by the Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Aisha A. Adamu, the 9th edition of the AWC will feature keynote sessions, plenary discussions, and strategic roundtables.

Dignitaries expected include First Ladies, Ministers, Members of Parliament, civil society leaders, and women in business from various African countries.

Adamu explained that Ghana was selected as the host nation due to its strong commitment to democracy, inclusivity, and women’s empowerment.

The event, initially planned for South Africa, was moved to Ghana after consultations with regional partners and delegates to ensure greater accessibility and inclusiveness. Since its inception, the AWC has been hosted by countries including Namibia, Morocco, Rwanda, The Gambia, Ethiopia, and Zambia. Ghana now takes the mantle for 2025, while Nigeria is expected to host the 10th edition in 2026.

This year’s discussions will focus on digital inclusion, climate resilience, leadership mentorship, and financing for women-led businesses — key areas shaping Africa’s sustainable future.

The conference will also produce a Joint Communiqué and Action Framework to guide gender-focused policies and institutional reforms across Africa.

Established as a platform to amplify African women’s voices, the AWC continues to align its mission with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — fostering unity, empowerment, and transformative leadership among women on the continent.
