Transforming Spaces and Lives: Morenike Molehin’s Journey from Numbers to Design

Morenike Molehin shines as a beacon of innovation and resilience in the vibrant landscape of African entrepreneurship.

As the founder and CEO of Oak and Teak Interiors, she has ingeniously turned her passion for design into a globally recognized enterprise that is reshaping the interior design narrative.

With a solid academic foundation that began with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Mathematics from Covenant University and a Master’s in Financial Mathematics and Computation from the University of Leicester, Molehin initially charted a course in business analysis and operations management.

However, it was her natural talent for interior design—revealed while decorating her own home—that sparked a bold career pivot.

In 2013, she launched Oak and Teak Interiors, and by 2017, she fully committed to her vision, bidding farewell to the corporate world to nurture her passion.

Under her leadership, Oak and Teak Interiors has carved a unique niche in both residential and commercial design, attracting an impressive clientele that spans beyond Nigeria, including destinations like Dubai, Rwanda, and Ghana.

In 2022, the firm earned the prestigious Best Luxury Residential Interior Design Company award in Nigeria, validating its excellence and innovation in the industry.

But Morenike is more than just an entrepreneur; she’s dedicated to empowering the next generation of women.

She founded The Complete Woman, a ministry focused on equipping young women with life skills through mentorship programs and conferences addressing spirituality, relationships, career advancement, and personal growth. Her commitment to knowledge sharing shines through her free seminars, where she has trained over 100 aspiring designers on the ins and outs of the industry.

Her achievements have not gone unnoticed.

In 2023, she was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the ELOY Awards and recognized as one of the Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria by Leading Ladies Africa.

Balancing her roles as an entrepreneur and mother is no easy feat, but Molehin tackles it all with grace and determination.

Married to Abayomi Oluwaseun Molehin since 2011 and the mother of two, she underscores the importance of a strong support system. “Every woman in business needs a solid support system,” she stresses, acknowledging the vital roles played by her husband, team, family, and friends in her journey.

Looking to the future, Molehin envisions Oak and Teak Interiors evolving into a global brand, with ambitions of ranking among the top three interior design firms worldwide by 2030.

Driven by a commitment to excellence and client satisfaction, her aspirations reflect a vision that goes beyond business; it’s about leaving a legacy of beauty and empowerment.

Morenike Molehin’s story exemplifies the transformative power of aligning passion with purpose. Her journey inspires not just aspiring entrepreneurs in Africa but women everywhere striving to make their mark in the business world.
